Church Covenant
Having been led by the Holy Spirit to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior, and, on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, we do now solemnly and joyfully covenant with God and with one another by aid of the Holy Spirit:
1. To walk together in Christian love; to exercise a mutual care for one another in matters spiritual and temporal by giving and receiving prayer, encouragement, admonition, rebuke, and practical aid; to be slow to take offense but quick to understand and forgive; to exercise hospitality; and to tenderly regard and protect one another’s reputation.
2. To strive for the advancement of this church in growth, knowledge, holiness, and comfort; to promote its spirituality and prosperity; to give it pre-eminence in our affairs over all institutions of human origin; to contribute cheerfully and regularly to its worship and ordinances by constant communion with each other therein; to uphold its doctrines; to be governed by its Constitution and bylaws; to honor, esteem and pray for the Pastor and to submit to him in the spiritual exercise of his official authority.
3. We covenant to walk circumspectly in the world, always conducting ourselves in such a manner as will reflect honor and not shame upon the name and testimony of Christ and this fellowship; to be just in our dealings, prompt in the payment of our debts, diligent in our conduct; to shun all gossip, tattling, evil speaking of others, excessive anger, or profane speech; and to bear prudent testimony and influence against evil practices.
4. To maintain family and personal devotions; to zealously educate our children in the things of the Lord and discipline them with firmness and love; to seek the salvation of our kindred and acquaintances; to build up ourselves in the most holy faith through acquisition of Biblical knowledge and discernment and putting both into practice.
5. We covenant to strive for the salvation of the lost, the edification of the saints, obedience to the Word of God, and glorification of God.
6. We further pledge that we will not depart from this Covenant suddenly or without first seeking the counsel of the Pastor and deacons, and that should we remove from this place, we will promptly unite with a church of like faith and practice where we can carry out the spirit of this Covenant and the principles of God’s Word.
In the presence of God, his holy angels, and one another, we do so covenant, God helping us.
